Nearly 100 passengers on an Air Canada flight from Montreal to Toronto were forced to make an emergency exit from the plane when it landed Tuesday morning at Pearson International Airport.
Nearly 100 passengers on an Air Canada flight from Montreal to Toronto were forced to make an emergency exit from the plane when it landed Tuesday morning at Pearson International Airport.
Saad Saadi, a passenger who spoke with CBC News inside the airport, said he had noticed a "weird smell" when he entered the Airbus A-320 aircraft in Montreal.
There were 99 passengers and six crew onboard the shuttle flight between the two cities, when the pilot announced there was a problem with the plane's hydraulics.
Saadi said the pilot who made an announcement told passengers the problem had been isolated and they should not worry. To be safe, he said, fire trucks would meet the aircraft when it touched down in Toronto.
Flight 433 landed safely just after 9 a.m., but passengers said the strange smell had worsened and they saw smoke in the cabin.
Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said the plane landed normally, then developed a problem with hydraulics affecting the steering. Fitzpatrick said the smoke appeared to have come from hydraulic fluid in the brakes.
As a precaution, the passengers used emergency slides to leave the aircraft.
Several passengers suffered minor scrapes and bruises, according to the airline.
