Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok) and Cargolux (CV, Luxembourg) are among a growing list of international airlines that have suspended their respective Karachi Int'l operations in the wake of a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack on the airport this past weekend which left 34 people dead.
Flights into and out of the airport were suspended on Sunday following a six-hour siege of airport during which 10 Taliban militants were killed. Despite the all-clear from Pakistani security forces, a second attack was launched on Monday afternoon. The authorities succeeded in recapturing the terminal at 17h00L. Thereafter, a third and final attack on the airport, this time on the nearby Security Force Camp #2, was launched on Tuesday afternoon.
Claiming responsibility for the incursion, the TTP said it was an act of vengeance for the death of its late leader Hakimullah Mehsud, killed in a US drone strike in November.
