Incident: Avianca F100 at Campo Grande and Cuiaba on Mar 30th 2014, unsafe gear due to bird strike
By Simon Hradecky, created Tuesday, Apr 1st 2014 15:54Z, last updated Tuesday, Apr 1st 2014 15:54Z

An Avianca Brazil Fokker 100, registration PR-OAI performing flight O6-6385 from Campo Grande,MS to Cuiaba,MT (Brazil) with 78 passengers and 5 crew, was on approach to Cuiaba when the crew received an unsafe gear indication and decided to abort the approach. The crew subsequently decided to return to Campo Grande due to the longer runway (2600 meters instead of 2300 meters) available. The aircraft landed safely on Campo Grande's runway about 3 hours after departure.

The airline reported that a bird strike had caused a sensor failure, the gear did operate normally and did safely lock in its down position.

E la serie continua: ancora bird strike, questa volta ad un motore. Sarebbe forse opportuno far benedire la flotta!

On Apr 4th 2014 an Avianca Airbus A320-200, registration N284AV performing flight AV-8595 from Valledupar to Bogota (Colombia) with 118 people on board, was climbing through 700 feet AGL out of Valledupar when a bird, most likely a buzzard, impacted the left hand engine (CFM56) resulting in engine vibrations. The crew stopped the climb and returned to Valledupar for a safe landing. The flight was cancelled.
