AirAsia may get landing rights at Paris Orly

Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia may get landing rights at Paris's Orly Airport.

During a visit to France Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak told journalists he raised, with the French Government, the issue of AirAsia's application for landing rights at Orly, according to national news agency Bernama.

French Prime Minister Francois Fillon also reportedly told Razak that AirAsia has been granted landing rights "outside Paris", although the report did not specify airports.

Najib reportedly said the carrier's application for landing rights at Orly was appropriate given that AirAsia, the parent of Air Asia X, is a big customer for Airbus A320 aircraft, some of which are produced in France.

AirAsia has over 100 Airbus A320s on firm order, though it has deferred 16 A320s due for delivery in 2010 and 2011.

If AirAsia gets rights to fly to Paris, the destination is likely to be served by its long haul, low-cost unit AirAsia X. AirAsia X operates five Airbus A330s and has 33 aircraft on firm order: 23 Airbus A330-300s and 10 Airbus A350-900s.

Comincia a prendere forma lo scalo ad Abu Dhabi di Airasia con il quale vogliono far arrivare gli A330 in Europa.
E' un sogno pensare a qualcosa anche in Italia.

Da quel che ne sapevo io, finora gli unici slot ad essere stati inseriti a bilancio in quanto considerati come asset sono stati quelli di LHR - non sapevo che SkyEurope avesse inserito a bilancio quelli di ORY, soprattutto perché quando chiedevo alle mie fonti interne a SkyEurope perché non vendessero gli slot di ORY per fare un po' di cassa, mi risposero che la cosa era tecnicamente impossibile.
Secondo me la COHOR francese ha ancora il controllo di quegli slot, che rimangono pertanto, come lo sono stati per tanti anni, beni intangibili e quindi soggetti alla regola "use it or lose it". Penso che siano a disposizione di chi li chieda, a patto ovviamente che il richiedente sia ben visto dalla COHOR (i.e. chiunque a parte easyJet!)

AirAsia said it has been granted landing rights in Paris by the French government and is awaiting further details from authorities. "The French government's approval places AirAsia in a significant position, in line with the plans by AirAsia X to expand our operations in Europe," AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani said. "AirAsia X had initially considered launching a route from Kuala Lumpur to Nice, France, next year but with this latest news, the airline will recalibrate its strategy as we now have an opportunity to fly to Paris." Currently, its sole service in Europe is seven weekly flights to London Stansted.

Ricordavo che è molto più difficile avere slot a ORY che a CDG, probabilmente a Orly risulta più difficile il normale hubbing e quindi si danneggiano meno i padroni di casa.

Esatto a CDG è piu' facile avere slot e anche piu' facile fare connessioni fai da te vista la mole di voli esistente, pare che la maggioranza dei pax del STN-KUL arrivino a STN con voli FR o U2 e transiti fai da te, la stessa cosa sarebbe successa a CDG, da ORY è piu' difficile.
