Ripeto, paragonare mele e pere è errato: paragonare gli USA con una tratta interna Italiana è sbagliato. Paragonare voli con scalo e voli diretti (sopratutto su una distanza di nemmeno due ore) è sbagliato.
 
Quello che vedo ogni giorno in aeroporto sono passeggeri che portano ANCORA OGGI trolley più zaino senza aver pagato la priorità, e passeggeri che arrivano al gate con zaini da trekking enormi solo con la basic fare. Il 98% dei passeggeri imbarcati non paga assolutamente nulla al gate; quel 2% è composto da chi purtroppo non ha ancora capito il business delle low-cost, che indubbiamente vivono di queste fees/multe aggiuntive. Se vogliono lamentarsi, va bene, ma altrimenti hanno a disposizione altre compagnie aeree.

Once again, Aena and the Spanish Govt (its majority shareholder) has failed regional Spain whose airports are almost 70% EMPTY‼️

Che cosa sta succedendo in Spagna a Ryanair e che cosa può succedere in Italia.


È diventato ancora più incandescente lo scontro tra governo spagnolo e la compagnia aerea Ryanair sugli aumenti delle tariffe aeroportuali, con potenziali riflessi anche in Italia dove il vettore irlandese è leader di mercato nei voli nazionali.

Infatti la compagnia low-cost irlandese ha annunciato un taglio di un milione di posti per la stagione invernale (ottobre-marzo), dopo aver già ridotto 800.000 posti in estate. La compagnia dice che trasferirà la capacità a paesi come Italia, Marocco, Croazia, Albania, Svezia o Ungheria, spostando due aerei dalla base di Santiago de Compostela, chiusa, con una perdita di investimenti di 171 milioni di euro per la Galizia.

Il taglio colpisce duramente gli aeroporti regionali: stop alle operazioni a Vigo, Tenerife Nord, Jerez e Valladolid, con riduzioni del 38% a Santander, 45% a Zaragoza e 16% in Asturie. Le Canarie perdono il 10% della capacità, con 400.000 posti in meno.

Per alcuni degli aeroporti colpiti il taglio è drammatico, considerando che Ryanair è la loro principale compagnia aerea, leader in 18 dei 26 scali spagnoli in cui opera, con una quota di mercato del 21,2% nel 2024.

Complessivamente, la capacità in Spagna cala del 16%, con un -41% negli aeroporti meno frequentati.
Ryanair lamenta sia l’aumento estivo di 68 centesimi sui biglietti e sia il programma di incentivi per aeroporti con meno di tre milioni di passeggeri, entrambi lontani dalle sue richieste. “Aena ha gli aeroporti regionali vuoti al 70% per non accettare i nostri piani”, accusa la compagnia.
Il presidente di Aena, Maurici Lucena, ha risposto con un lungo comunicato accusando Ryanair di una “strategia di estorsione” che distorce la realtà: “È difficile trovare nella storia aziendale contemporanea un altro caso come quello di Ryanair in cui la discordanza tra l’eccellenza operativa di una compagnia e la disonestà della sua politica di comunicazione sia così sorprendente”.

“Con il piagnisteo di Ryanair gli aeroporti non funzionerebbero”, afferma, sottolineando che tariffe personalizzate violerebbero la legge spagnola del 2014. “Né il governo né Aena possono modificare a piacimento le tariffe aeroportuali definite dalla legge, altrimenti commetteremmo un’illegalità”, aggiunge.

ll ministro dell’Industria e Turismo, Jordi Hereu, ha dichiarato: “Non ci sottometteremo alle decisioni arbitrarie di Ryanair”, sottolineando l’impegno a difendere l’interesse generale pur mantenendo canali di dialogo aperti, ma solo nel rispetto reciproco.
Protagonista della disputa è Aena, società a controllo statale (51%) e quotata in Borsa, che gestisce quasi tutti gli aeroporti spagnoli e si occupa dello sviluppo delle relative infrastrutture. Dopo 10 anni di blocco delle tariffe, ha programmato un piano di aumenti a partire dal 2024 e di connessi incentivi per le compagnie. Inoltre dal 2026 ha annunciato un ulteriore aumento del 6,5% che porterà il ricavo massimo annuale applicabile pari a 11,03 euro per passeggero, ovvero un incremento di 68 centesimi.

Apriti cielo. Il gigante con sede a Dublino, con il Ceo della principale società operativa, Eddie Wilson, personalmente in prima linea, ha chiesto l’annullamento degli aumenti e sconti significativi sulle tariffe degli aeroporti regionali. A queste richieste il ministro dei Trasporti spagnolo Oscar Puente ha risposto accusando apertamente Ryanair di “ricatto”.
Ricatto, perché agli aumenti del 2024, Ryanair ha risposto tagliando voli per circa 1 milione di passeggeri in sette aeroporti regionali. Con località come Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, Saragozza, Valladolid e Jerez che, da aprile, stanno accusando un calo del traffico passeggeri tra il 16 e il 68%. Un colpo durissimo per l’attività turistica di aree che sono meno densamente popolate e difficili da raggiungere con altri mezzi.

A tale colpo si sono ora aggiunti gli ulteriori tagli di circa 1 milione di passeggeri negli aeroporti regionali, annunciati ieri. Che Wilson aveva già annunciato come “devastanti e continuerà così finché qualcuno non tornerà alla ragione e se ne pentirà».

La tesi di Wilson è molto semplice: con quelle tariffe aeroportuali Ryanair non è competitiva e quindi sposterà i propri aeromobili altrove. Ha accusato ripetutamente Aena di monopolio e ha citato l’esempio dell’Italia, dove le infrastrutture sono gestite in regime pubblico-privato, consentendo di negoziare le tariffe direttamente con ogni aeroporto. Per non farsi mancare nulla, Wilson ha proposto anche la soluzione: sottrarre la gestione ad Aena per affidarla alle comunità autonome. Ma il ministro Puente ha deciso di tenere il punto, definendo le richieste di Ryanair “spropositate”, anche se il tentativo di sostituire il vettore irlandese nel breve termine ha sortito scarsi risultati.

In un comunicato stampa, Ryanair ha ribadito che «se si permetterà ad Aena di continuare ad aumentare le sue tariffe già poco competitive, Ryanair non avrà altra scelta se non ridurre drasticamente il numero di posti e rotte operate verso le regioni spagnole».
Evidentemente agli irlandesi non piace trattare con chi, come loro, ha posizioni dominanti (al primo posto nel 2024 come passeggeri in Spagna con 58 milioni) e piace – e non lo nascondono – trattare con le singole società aeroportuali come accade in Italia.

Nel nostro Paese, che Ryanair porta come esempio virtuoso (forse per il proprio conto economico) la situazione è altrettanto sbilanciata. Infatti la compagnia irlandese ha una quota nei voli nazionali di circa il 49%, con 17,5 milioni di passeggeri imbarcati per destinazioni nazionali su un totale di 36,3 nel 2024. Il secondo vettore è Ita Airways, sideralmente lontano, con 10,4 milioni. Come la Spagna, anche l’Italia ha aeroporti regionali che servono aree meno densamente popolate e che muovono meno di 2 milioni di passeggeri all’anno per i voli nazionali. Insomma, è preminente la componente di servizio su quella di redditività.

Il punto che impressiona delle parole di Wilson – «la capacità ritirata dagli aeroporti regionali spagnoli non rimarrà in Spagna, ma sarà destinata ad altri paesi o regioni più competitivi, ci sono molti paesi europei interessati ai nostri investimenti» – è proprio la totale dipendenza dalle decisioni, legittime ovviamente, di un imprenditore privato relative però all’offerta di un bene pubblico che non è un monopolio naturale, come un’autostrada, ma la cui offerta è soggetta a vincoli strutturali (la disponibilità degli slot, per esempio) e comunque sfrutta ingenti investimenti infrastrutturali eseguiti dallo Stato.

Allora, se la logica è quella di utilizzare quasi gratis quegli investimenti, col ricatto di lasciare a piedi una fetta consistente del Paese – ieri è accaduto in Spagna ma potrebbe accadere anche in Italia – è bene che tutti siano consapevoli dei rischi ai quali è esposta anche l’Italia. Per esempio Aeroporti di Puglia Spa, controllata dalla Regione Puglia al 99%, ha accumulato dal 2020 al 2024 47 milioni di perdite e prevede di eseguire 218 milioni di investimenti fino al 2027. Se tali investimenti devono essere effettuati senza ricevere adeguata remunerazione da chi utilizza quei servizi e quindi sia la gestione (perdita di 2,5 milioni nel 2024 e 3,8 milioni nel 2023) che gli investimenti devono essere finanziati con il bilancio pubblico – peraltro esponendosi al rischio di restare isolati, appena a Dublino non marginano abbastanza – è bene che questa scelta distributiva sia ben chiara a tutti i cittadini.

Si è scelto di garantire il bene pubblico della mobilità mettendo perdite e investimenti delle società di gestione a carico del bilancio pubblico. Ma nessuno regala nulla: o pagano i contribuenti, via bilancio pubblico che “quasi regala” le infrastrutture alle compagnie, o pagano i contribuenti (consumatori) quando le compagnie hanno tariffe alte perché devono pagare adeguatamente l’uso delle infrastrutture.

Ci sarebbe anche il caso della tanto vituperata “compagnia di bandiera” che operava certe rotte solo per offrire il servizio della mobilità a costi accettabili e poi scaricava le perdite sui bilanci pubblici. Ma il Dio assoluto del Mercato ha cancellato questa soluzione. Per poi oggi lamentarsi, come fa Ryanair, quando spariscono i sussidi. Perché avere la botte piena (il mercato) e la moglie ubriaca (i sussidi) piace sempre a tutti.

Vero è che esiste una economia di scala, ma in generale se le rotte alternative fossero più profittevoli sarebbero già state aperte.

Settimana prossima sono previste delle conferenze stampa di Ryanair alla presenza del CEO Eddy Wilson, si parla di un possibili annunci di nuove rotte, staremo a vedere. Sono previste conferenze stampa martedi 23 a Crotone e mercoledi 24 a Trapani.
