Delta Air Lines has grounded more than 100 aircraft for structural inspections after a hailstorm slammed Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport on June 27.
- The airline must inspect the aircraft for dent and damage before they can be released to service after the storms brought quarter-inch hail to the region.
- The affected planes were on parking configuration during the storm.
- Severe weather overnight led to over 450 flight cancellations at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, disrupting travel plans for millions.
- The severe thunderstorm hit before 8 p.m., halting takeoffs & landings for over an hour.
- FAA had to evacuate the control tower due to strong winds, with only 3 controllers remaining on duty.
- Delta, the airport's hub carrier, faced the disruption with 14% of flights being canceled.
