La no frills conterà quattro aeromobili in flotta.

Aeroflot launches new low-cost carrier to replace sanctioned Dobrolet

Russia’s largest airline Aeroflot has set up a new low-cost subsidiary called Budget Carrier.
Aeroflot management had promised to create a new subsidiary to replace its low-cost Dobrolet, which ceased operations in August, as a result of EU sanctions. The company said restrictions imposed by the European Union led to the cancellation of aircraft lease, maintenance and insurance agreements.

I believe that we can launch flights at the start of the winter season from October 27,” Aeroflot’s chief executive Vitaly Savelyev said in late August. “We will proceed from this date. We will create a new subsidiary.”

Savelyev said the new carrier will initially have four planes, which will be transferred from Aeroflot’s other subsidiary OrenAir.

The new low-cost carrier could have a name that’s only a little different from its predecessor –Dobrolet Plus. Earlier reports suggested Aeroflot has purchased internet domains dobroletplus.com, dobrolet-plus.com, as well as Russian regional versions ending with .ru and .рф.
The press services of both Aeroflot and Dobrolet have refused to comment on the new low-cost carrier on Tuesday.

Dobrolet started operations with flights to Crimea in June, was only operational for 6 weeks. It had a fleet of two Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft, and a Sukhoi SuperJet-100.

Before finding itself on the EU sanctions list, the low-cost carrier announced plans to expand its fleet to eight planes and adding more destinations across Russia by the end of 2014.
Dobrolet promised its prices would be at least 15-20 percent lower than the average economy class fare with Aeroflot. A Moscow to Simferopol return ticket cost $60.

Moscow has also warned it could impose counter-sanctions that would hurt Western airlines, like shutting air corridors over Siberia. The possibility sent major airlines’ share prices sharply down in early August.

Aeroflot decides against using 'Dobrolet' name for new LCC

Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) will not relaunch its budget operations under the Dobrolet brand name, but will instead stick to Бюджетный перевозчик ('Byudzetniy Perevozchik' - "Budget Air Carrier"). Aeroflot sources who spoke to Russia's Vedomosti newspaper on condition of anonymity this week said management had discussed various options but had settled on a more generic name as a means of protecting the Dobrolet brand until such time that international sanctions are lifted and the carrier is once more free to operate as it pleases.

Sources stated that the carrier had already begun its certification with Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) with B737-800s to be sourced from Aeroflot which in turn sourced them from Orenair (R2, Orenburg). Aeroflot transferred the aircraft to Orenair shortly after Dobrolet suspended operations in August.

Initial flights will likely launch on October 27 covering Ufa, St. Petersburg, Samara Kurumoch, Perm, Volgograd, Adler/Sochi, Tyumen, and Surgut.

Aeroflot is to brand its new low-cost carrier ‘Pobeda’, meaning ‘Victory’, after its previous budget operation, Dobrolet, was forced to halt services.

The airline will use Boeing 737-800s and largely retain Dobrolet’s livery, although the fleet will carry the revised name.

Aeroflot had launched budget services with Dobrolet in June but the carrier’s controversial initial route to Crimea, the Ukrainian territory annexed by Russia earlier this year, made the airline a target of European Union sanctions.

Dobrolet was forced to suspend services in August but Aeroflot vowed to resurrect its budget strategy by circumventing the restrictions.

Aeroflot’s selection of ‘Pobeda’ illustrates its defiance. Next year, on 9 May, Russia will celebrate the 70th anniversary of ‘Victory Day’ – the surrender of German forces to the Soviet Union in the Second World War.

But Aeroflot chief Vitaly Saveliev adds that the name also symbolises victory over “difficulties and external challenges” faced by Russia and its people this year.

The new carrier, however, appears set to avoid Crimean territory during its start-up phase.

Pobeda will begin services on the Moscow Vnukovo-Volgograd route on 17 November. Aeroflot says it will expand to Samara, Ekaterinburg, Perm, Kazan, Tyumen, Surgut and Belgorod.
