Russia’s Aeroflot reported first-half net income of RUB3.39 billion ($95.6 million), down 36.2% year-over-year. The first-half period ended June 30 and the results were published according to Russian Accounting Standards (RAS).
First-half revenue rose 14.8% to RUB105.7 billion. Cost of sales increased 17.7% year-on-year to RUB92.39 billion.
The carrier said the results were due to increased traffic volume, higher costs associated with fleet expansion and higher foreign currency exchange rates.
Commercial expenses rose 24.5% to RUB14.4 billion, which Aeroflot attributed to the “seasonality of traffic volumes versus fixed costs related to maintaining the fleet and ground equipment.”
During the first half, Aeroflot carried 10.96 million passengers, up 14.9% compared with the year-ago period. It added 23 aircraft since the end of the first-half 2013.
Aeroflot and its group members—Rossiya Airlines, Aurora, Donavia and Dobrolet—are the only carriers in Russia that publish results according to RAS.
