Minchia! Questa davvero non me l'aspettavo!

Saudi airline RIA’s new CEO Tony Douglas has left his position after barely two months in the role, Arabian Business understands.

Douglas quit Etihad Airways in October last year, to take the helm of the new carrier being launched in Saudi Arabia.

RIA’s role in Saudi aviation
The launch of RIA is also expected shortly. Backed by the Saudi PIF, around $30 billion is being invested to create a brand-new carrier, with long-term ambitions of becoming a major global player.

However, sources close to the PIF told Arabian Business that Douglas was “no longer involved” with the airline.

Douglas had overseen Etihad since January 2018. He was previously the CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Company between 2013 and 2015. He was replaced at Etihad by former TAP Airlines boss Antonoaldo Neves.

The airline is the centrepiece of Saudi Arabia’s $100 billion investment in aviation as part of its Vision 2030 plans. A third national carrier, based in NEOM, is also being considered.

RIA will be based out of Riyadh, while SAUDIA will operate from Jeddah.
